Many women choose Breast Restoration after mastectomy and part of this process includes areola recreation.  Many feel having the areola tattooed gives them a sense of completion.  Tattooing is performed in your plastic surgeon's or doctor's office. Tattooing is a simple, fast, relatively pain free procedure. There is no reason to be nervous!   If you are matching a new areola to the existing areola, I will mix various colors and shades to get as close as possible to the existing areola although it may not be an exact match.  If you had bilateral reconstruction, you can choose a new color of your choice.  Tattoo color is long lasting but it will fade in time. Periodic color refreshers may be needed. Getting the right shade of color may require more than one tattoo procedure. However, because I utilize a coil machine for my applications you can expect much more longevity and better color penetration than from a pen machine because the pigment is implanted deeper. All of the photos are right after procedure. Color will lighten and soften.
Areola Tattooing is a permanent cosmetic technique great not only for cancer survivors, but also for women looking to enlarge the areola or refresh the nipple color.  Women who have areolas that are smaller than they desire, asymmetrical, or lacking the desired color.  Cosmetic tattooing can achieve a balanced shape and color. Permanent cosmetic tattooing is a simple, non-surgical procedure that when performed properly, is safe and effective. It’s an excellent way to enhance your natural appearance.
